Like a moth to a flame, I couldn’t resist an opportunity to go thrifting while I was visiting Idaho’s Wood River Valley area. In the valley beneath Bald Mountain is the small city of Ketchum and next to Ketchum is the world famous Sun Valley Resort. There’s a thrift shop in Ketchum, promisingly called The Gold Mine.
As a lifelong thrift-hound, I have noticed that thrift stores often give a unique glimpse of an area’s culture. As you will see in my photos, the nuggets you will find in this particular shop reflect the area’s love for all things related to skiing and other snowy pursuits.
There are lots of used snowboard helmets:
And goggles:
Shovel, sled:
Tire chains:
There are plenty of ski pants for everyone, and their brother:
And boots:
There are not one, but two, unopened DVDs for improving your technique on the slopes:
There are barrels of ski poles:
Of course, there are a kazillion skis:
Lastly, no ski resort town’s thrift store would be complete without Hookers:
The Gold Mine is located at 331 N. Walnut Avenue in Ketchum, Idaho.
Check it out if you are in the area!
