Here’s a “radiating” lamp that begs the uncomfortable question, will it still glow after you turn it off?
Cartoonist Mimi Pond, author of Over Easy, is currently touring central Pennsylvania with her husband, artist Wayne White, and spotted this vintage treasure, a souvenir lamp commemorating the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant (site of the “worst accident in U.S. commercial nuclear power plant history”). She posted the photo of this unique artifact on her Facebook page and a friend of hers commented, “There used to be a gift shop run by employees. I bought a bunch of commuter mugs that were coincidentally shaped like cooling towers.” Note that this lamp’s ceramic base is also shaped like a cooling tower.
