Photos: First ever Krampuslauf in downtown Los Angeles

Last night I attended the first ever Krampuslauf –a public Krampus run or walk– in the Western United States. It was put on by Krampus Los Angeles, a troupe of “Krampus enthusiasts” headed by my friend (and former Cacophony cohort) Rev. Al Ridenour and Al Guerrero. The event happened during the monthly Downtown Art Walk in Los Angeles and is part of a series of Krampus-related events happening throughout the month in the area.

Here are some of my photos from the event which was a total blast! The costumes were over-the-top fantastic and the vibe was great. The parade of St. Nicholas leading “horned and furry yuletide” devils was well-received by onlookers and fun was had by all.

On Saturday, December 14th, there will be a “Naughty or Nice” art show at CoproGallery with an outdoor Krampus performance and on December 21st, there will be a night of Krampus-themed musical acts called Krampus Rumpus. If you missed this year’s events, not to worry, Krampus Los Angeles promises that Krampusfest will be back in 2014.
